The Querying Begins

An introduction to Lovetrick

I love statistics. So, as I log with all my books, here are Lovetrick's notable numbers:

Date started: January 15th, 2024

First draft completed: April 2nd, 2024

Word count: 72,603

Chapter count: 33 (+ a chapter of extras)

Page count: 187

I've always been a fast writer. But Lovetrick was one of my most challenging writing journeys yet, for reasons I didn't quite expect. You'd think that contemporary romance would be easier than fantasy. You don't have to build your own world, for one. You get to skip all that worldbuilding energy and go straight to the good stuff-- even if worldbuilding sometimes IS my favourite part. You don't need to convince your readers of anything right off the bat.

But... In fantasy, if something feels stuck, you can just throw a dragon at it. Or a curse or a myth or an evil king. With fantasy, you hold all the cards at once, and you get to play them as you see fit. In writing contemporary romance, it felt like my hands were tied with all the things that would be considered "unrealistic".

So I chose celebrity romance. Which is the closest thing to fantasy you can get in the real world. Do I know how this world works? Not really. I've certainly done my research, and even spent summers in LA working in production companies. I've got friends in the industry, and I've scoured the internet for memoirs that might lead me in the right direction. But, ultimately, it's still a fantasy. Once I realized that, the rest came easily.

Lovetrick started as an experiment. Could I write a contemporary romance? Could I pay homage to all the tropes I've grown up reading and loving, whether in fanfiction or novels? Could I write characters that are believable and complex in the real world, not just in one where I can pull all the strings?

I hope that the answer is yes. Lovetrick features my favourite tropes and some of the characters I'm most proud of. They're going through real issues, that are relatable even on their grand scale. And watching them fall in love has me kicking my little feet, and I wrote them!

So if you like fake dating, celebrity romance alternate universes, friends to lovers, childhood friends reuniting, and found family? You might like Lovetrick.

And that's not even mentioning the POC rep, plus-sized main character, and LGBTQ cast.
