Clara Lark Can't Die
Nothing is scarier than growing up.
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER meets PERCY JACKSON in this YA urban fantasy series.
Nothing is scarier than growing up. But you don't have to do it alone.
The world is not quite what you'd imagine it to be. Sure, it’s got cars, and school, and reality TV. But all those monsters and myths— the ones that have woven themselves into the very fabric of human history— they don’t exist, right?
Because if they did, you would know. You would have noticed. If they did, how could you possibly sleep at night?
The world is full of demons, witches, and magic. And, thanks to her demon bounty hunter parents, Clara Lark has more than her fair share of it. Her fate is to die on her eighteenth birthday, and not a moment before. Until then, she's unkillable. Something she intends to make great use of.
Setting out on a journey with her ex-best friend Keeley, her nemesis Sahar Al-Hemal, and a bizarre tree demon named Lucky Penny, the four quickly find themselves in over their heads, facing a variety of obstacles both demon and otherwise.
As the story progresses, Clara is forced to deal with her destiny and face it head-on. CLARA LARK CAN'T DIE is a story of growing up and community, and is part of a five-book series, each part representing one of the five stages of grief. It captures the raw, bittersweet experience of growing up with humor, heart, honesty, and, of course, magic.
Representation is important to me in all my work, and CLARA LARK CAN'T DIE features characters of differing races, genders, sexualities, and abilities. Clara herself is a black girl, and the main romance in the series will be a slow burn sapphic relationship.
"Dying was harder to walk off the second time around."
